The Realities of AI + ML
Artificial intelligence and machine learning are quickly advancing, presenting endless possibilities for the AEC industry. With public accessibility to LLMs (large language models) such as ChatGPT and generative image platforms like MidJourney and Dall-E, there is so much opportunity to improve our designs, workflows, and ultimately the built environment we inhabit. Industry leaders SHoP Architects, Perkins&Will, and Thornton Tomasetti will lead us in this exciting, ever-changing conversation.

In their session, Interactive Visualization - Democratizing Access to the 3D Model, New York-based architectural design firm SHoP Architects will discuss the innovative ways they’ve democratized their design process with technology and the potential applications of real-time visualization technologies in the AEC industry.
In their session, Engineering the AI Revolution, members of AEC firm Thornton Tomasetti’s CORE studio will discuss the development of bespoke AI-driven tools, particularly in structural design. Their session will specifically focus on CORE.AI models and how they are refactoring engineering processes, enabling reduced embodied carbon footprints in design, and facilitating rapid prototyping and optioneering.
What are the advantages of AI in AEC? In his session, AI in Practice, Perkins&Will’s Digital Innovation Strategist Charles Portelli will discuss how artificial intelligence is driving efficiency, data-driven decision making, and creativity. From early-stage concept generation to optimizing workflows and improving building performance, AI is transforming design in AEC.
Through an understanding of the history of artificial intelligence—its capabilities, limitations, opportunities, biases—Woods Bagot’s presentation The Augmented and Empathetic Architect will discuss positive ways AI will augment our profession and our experience of the built environment. Shane Burger predicts this approach will ultimately lead architects to become more effective and empathetic actors in our world and culture.
Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming the visualization landscape, and Chaos is on the front lines of unlocking new realms of creativity and efficiency in technology. In her presentation, Navigating the Frontier: The Intersection of Artificial Intelligence and Visualization Trends, Monica Nelson will explore the current state of AI integration within the AEC industry, showcasing how generative AI tools and language models are augmenting workflows.
